This quarter's been insanely busy, despite me having most of my afternoons off. I'm writing for the school paper (which, being for a branch campus, is really more of a newsletter). I just had a deadline this morning and -

GOD I HATE THESE LIVEJOURNAL ADS. I keep accidentally moving my cursor over them and starting the annoying video (I do not want to go to Gatlinburg, okay?! Leave me alone!). I miss my paid account. ;__;

Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yeah, I had three articles due today at 1pm. Luckily, the eMedia department's busy celebrating over our team in the College Movie Festival pretty much sweeping the awards, so I didn't have a lot of work to do there.

My point is, I've been busy lately and haven't gotten a chance to update in a while. Sorry about that. But I'm back now! With some older news! Hopefully I will have some more current stuff to talk about in the coming days, but I've been following this since it began and I feel that it's a good place to pick back up.

Let"s Talk About "The Last Airbender"Collapse )

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World

Here's an interesting film for all you comic book and video game nerds - Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. From director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) comes the tale of Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) and his quest to defeat the seven evil ex-boyfriends of his love Romana Flowers (Mary Winstead). The film is based on the comic written and drawn by Brian Lee O'Malley.

While I have not read the source material, this colorful and funny trailer has made sure that I will be picking it up during my next trip to the bookstore.

GamerVision has also released a great video breakdown of how the trailer stands up to the original comic, and finds it impressively faithful.

Chris Evans Officially Cast As Captain America

Why do you keep hurting me, Marvel? Why? ;______________;

The Rifftrax for New Moon is available just in time for the DVD release!

We also have a new trailer for series five of Doctor Who, which premieres on Easter Day. SO EXCITED OMG. :D

For all you Starkid fans, A Very Potter Sequel will be running May 14-16 up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Me and my friend greenchesspiece (go say hi, he's new to LJ!) have made plans to drive the four hours up there to see it. He agreed to it even before I showed him the YouTube videos and now that he's seen it, he messaged me on Facebook all "WE HAVE TO GET TICKETS." Another one converted; my work here is done. Team Starkid has said that they will have a reservation system and I've been watching their website/twitter account like a hawk for the moment tickets are available. And I promise I will give you guys a full review.

Meanwhile, you should check out their other show, Me and My Dick. Obviously, it's mature content, but it's really funny and the music is fantastic. The soundtrack was released on iTunes on March 9 and it premiered on the Billboard Cast Album chart at #11 two days ago! That's unprecedented for a student-created musical and a great example of the power of the internet in reaching a larger audience than a production like that normally would. So congrats to them!

Here are my picks for the OscarsCollapse )

Word has been spreading like wildfire that Betty White is dead. THIS IS FALSE. OhNoTheyDidn't was trolled.

What happened is that jerseyfux (ETA: who has now been revealed to be flaming)got a post about Jeremy Renner approved. They then edited that post so that it showed a photo of Betty with the TMZ breaking news logo on it and a short article saying that she had been found dead. The article was clearly fake, as it mentioned possibilities of foul play and drug abuse, and grandchildren that Betty White does not have. But anyone who wanted to do any further investigating at the "source" was lead to the TMZ homepage which did not feature said article.

Several users who were either socks or friends in on the trolling claimed that they saw the article up on TMZ and it had since been deleted, so it was not the OP's fault. However, TMZ is known for their journalistic integrity. Not only do they rarely report false information, but they would never delete a post - just edit it to provide the correction. One sock/friend provided a screencap as proof; that was proven to be fake when the font used didn't match the one TMZ actually uses.

The post was finally deleted, but by then Betty White was already a worldwide trending topic on Twitter.

The jackals are calling for blood. Don't mess with ONTD's grandma.

ETA: Hello LA Times blog readers! This is kind of surreal!
